Headed to Off Broadway for the 3rd Annual Brasstravaganza hosted by the Funky Butt Brass Band. They performed various Christmas songs in their own funky style. I took some Santa Photos for Stray Rescue donations and basically just had a blast. There were a few special guests including Mimi Le Yu who did a couple of songs. Lots of fun people there that night.

I couldn't wait to meet these little guys and to see Janet again. They were so full of fun and really kept me on my toes. It was a chilly day and getting late or I think I would have took photos of them for another hour. It was also great seeing Rogan again....he used to be a client of mine and he seemed to remember me in a good way. :)

We couldn't have had better weather for this time of year and Olin was such a good little guy, I swear he's always in the best mood. He also just started walking a few days after this shoot. :)

Today I got to meet little Sage. His parents Christina and Yacob were blessed with this little angel on Aug. 22nd, so he was only 2 weeks old. He was very cooperative for his photo shoot and even gave us a few smiles. I am so glad that I got to meet him and can't wait to watch him grow!

THE FESTIVAL OF NATIONS 2011

The twelfth annual Festival of Nations took place over the weekend on August 27th and 28th in Tower Grove Park. This multicultural celebration featured food and art from over 51 ethnicities. Various dancers and musicians performing throughout the festival, showing off their cultural costumes and instruments. There were also many activities and crafts for the whole family to enjoy.

FUNDRAISER FOR THE JOPLIN, MO HUMANE SOCIETY

My friend Nina decided to help out the Joplin, MO Humane Society by donating her home to hold a fundraising event. There was a horrible tornado recently and many of the homes in Joplin were wiped out. This devastation also left many animals homeless, and there is only one shelter around. Many restaurants donated food and coupons and lots of entertainers and musicians showed up to donate their time. It was a great night! Thanks everyone!!

RASPUTINA CONCERT

Rasputina paid a visit to The Old Rock House on Thursday, July 21st, 2011. St. Louis was fourth on their tour to promote their newest album, "Sister Kinderhook". The tour will finish up in Sandusky, OH on August 16th.

The trio, approached the stage without aplomb in silence and took their seats, tuned their cellos and the rest was a night of bliss for Rasputina fans. To the adoring calls of "We love you, Melora!", which was greeted with a subtle sideways smile, the cavalcade of soulful and melodic sounds greeted the crowds ears. The blistering heat, which Melora Creager commented on, had little effect on their performance although both her and fellow cellist, Daniel DeJesus' skills were madly red-hot, complimenting the intense beating of strings and thrilling voice. Dawn Micelli from the infamous "Dawn and Drew Show" rounded out the trio on the drums.

In between songs Melora quipped her trademark witty statements. "I grew up in Missouri," she deadpanned to the laughter of the crowd. "No, really. I was, uh, born in Missouri." And then she was off, entrenched in the next song. Her ability to get lost and then find herself and connect with fellow musicians in the midst of a performance, weaving back and forth again, is a rare talent reminiscent of the style of Tori Amos.

Ending the show with a Melora-dubbed "duplect" was the final cherry on the crowds sundae, their only disappointment being the lack of encoure.

Tonight was also my friend Ami Amore' birthday party so I had lots of fun with friends as well. Great night!!!

ESTER GAVE HERSELF A MUD FACIAL...

Ester can smell fresh mud a block away. We had a lot of rain lately and many of our larger flower pots couldn't drain out the water....so when I looked outside one morning, I saw her with her head completely submerged in the pot. I just had to run in the house and get my camera. She was so proud of herself too.

Headed to the park to meet Norman on a secret photo shoot to surprise his owners for Christmas. We wanted to get in some flowers before it got too hot, but the day turned out to be warmer than expected and Norman couldn't last very long. He was such a good little trooper and a total character.

Headed to the Botanical Garden to photograph baby Liam once again. It was a beautiful Spring day and this time I got to meet Dad. There beautiful tulips and Phlox in bloom so we didn't have to look too far to find backgrounds. Liam is growing like a weed and getting more and more animated....Dad had his hands full!

Yesterday it really started snowing here in St. Louis, MO. Weird weather is not unusual here, but the amount of snow that stuck was a beautiful sight! After work I stopped at Lafayette Park on the way home and got a few photos. I love the way the snow looked on the new flowers as well....so wonderful!

Today turned out to be almost a record high....87 degrees and HIGH humidity...not exactly the best day for a maternity shoot in the park....esp one with a toddler and 3 dogs!
Luckily Kama and her family were all good sport....even the dogs were VERY well behaved. I don't know how they did it because my crew would've been all over that park...lol.
This really was a great family to work with and I just fell in LOVE with little Elle....who wouldn't?
Can't wait to meet the newest family member!

Jim decided to set an appointment to get his very 1st tattoo!! He's been meaning to get one since I got the one on my wrist. It's a spiral design that was supposed to be a matching tattoo to his, but he backed out. So now, years later....he FINALLY went in to see Lauren at Cheap Trx.
Lauren is a friend of ours so that helped make him feel a little more at ease.....and she couldn't have been nicer.

THE GUILLOTINE!

So far we had to pick out a design...(of course I picked Bender, duh!) and transfer the art onto a board. Next time I won't pick such a DETAILED design for my very first one...ugh! I didn't know I would be redrawing it 3 times! I will also be bringing transfer paper....shhhh

My First Step

There weren't too many students so we all get a lot of attention and Tom is very entertaining w/ his stories while we are all working. There is even an eleven year old in the class! She is really a cute and cool kid.

There were a lot of other cool ideas and I can't wait to see what they will look like carved out!
Hopefully I don't cut off a finger!

Today we got up early and headed over to the Missouri Botanical Garden to do our yearly shopping at the 2 art shows there.
First we went to the Shaw Art Fair...

Ken Larson was there with his incredible clay Ravens....he was very nice and explained to us the difference between Ravens and Crows. Ravens have a pointed tail and are larger while crows have a rounded off tail.

CLICKER TRAINING - KAREN PRYOR VISIT

She is here in MO to promote her newest book...

REACHING THE ANIMAL MIND

I just got the book today so want to start reading it straight away! I read "Don't Shoot the Dog" some years ago and I was very pleased to hear of this new book.

Karen is a wonderful speaker and has done so much with her life and has really opened up a lot of people's eyes when it comes to positive reinforcement.

Now the Humane So. of Mo will be using her clicker methods to help calm the shelter animals and the Greater St. Louis Training Club will be switching their classes over to clicker training by January.

Last night, after work, Jim and I headed over to The Map Room for the very first time.

We met up with friends of ours (Jenn, Brett, Matt, Jeff, Robyn and Terry) and had initially planned on seeing a movie out on their patio, but mother nature had other ideas and there was a rain delay.
We all settled down in one of the many cozy nooks there. The place is just wonderful, like a good friend's family room (with a lot of extra tables)very charming. There are sofas, loveseats, settees, etc...all over, with books to read and even board games to occupy an entire evening.
We did check out the patio and it's also wonderful. There is plenty of space and an enormous tree growing right in the center. They have free movies out there every Saturday night (unless it rains) and they are the old "talkies" so I'm sure they will be a real treat.

The drink menu for this cafe is very imaginative offering a wide variety of concoctions most of which can be ordered "spiked". We ordered the White Sangria, made with melons and the Spiked Ice Tea of the day (spiked with Absolut, and cherry liqueur). Later we went back to get a large Chai Latte that was AMAZING and my new favorite drink. They served it to us "Americano" size which is only 1.00 more for double the amount! What a deal!

We were a little hungry so we ordered the "Picnic Basket" where we got 2 cheeses, sausage, fruit, olives, nuts and bread....all for only $12.00! Try to swing that deal in France.

There were all sorts of wonderful pastries and muffins and a fantastic array of beautiful desserts.

ZAKI'S PHOTO SHOOT

We met up with Zaki the 5 month old Chinese Shar-Pei and his owner Richelle for his very first photo shoot on Sunday (09-13-09).

We took a few photos in our yard after he got to run all over the place with Bender (lots of fun).
After we all got in the car to head over to Soulard to find some cool urban textures.
We took a few in front of the brick SMILE sign and a few in front of Ferraros on their patio.

Jim and Chloe' came along to help as puppy wranglers and Chloe' got some really amazing shots as well. It was pretty cool getting shots from two angles at once like that.

MEHTA-NAES PARTY

Went to an engagement party for a client's sister. I have never really even been to one before. This was held at the Annex behind Squires Restaurant.
They had a pretty good turnout and I got lots of great couple shots. It was pretty dark in there so the closeups turned out nice, but getting in the entire room was a little trickier for me.
There were also these annoying lights on the walls that always seemed to end up in the background of every photo....ugh!

The food turned out to be excellent! Everything looked really good too....especially the yummy cakes made by the mother of the bride to be.
